We don’t just show students how to solve a problem. We help them understand why it works.

Understand the concept
We start by clearly explaining the theory, the formulas and the ideas underneath them, broken into simple steps.

Practise with purpose
The student applies the idea through guided examples, interactive activities and practice aimed at the topics they find hardest.

Master and remember
Problem-solving and review lock the idea in, so the student can remember it, use it with confidence, and build skills that last.
Our goal: don’t just memorize math. Understand it, practise it, and master it.
Learning should be fun, practical and hands-on. We use games, real-life examples, and examples from the land and the community to make math and science engaging and easier to understand.
Math on the land: how much canvas does a tipi need?
A tipi is a cone, so its size comes from the Pythagorean theorem, trigonometry, and the surface area and volume of a cone. These are topics from Grade 8 to Math 10C. Change the floor and the height and follow each step.

Find the radius
Half the floor diameter.
r = 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 m

Find the slant height
The height, the radius and one side of the tipi make a right triangle, so use the Pythagorean theorem.
l = √(2.5² + 4²) = √22.25 ≈ 4.72 m

Find the canvas for the cover
The cover is the side surface of the cone: π × radius × slant height.
A = π × 2.5 × 4.72 ≈ 37.0 m²

Find the angle of the poles
Tangent compares the side opposite the angle (height) with the side next to it (radius).
θ = tan⁻¹(4 ÷ 2.5) ≈ 58°

Find the floor space and the air inside
Floor area is a circle. The volume of a cone is one third of a cylinder with the same base and height.
Floor = π × 2.5² ≈ 19.6 m²
Volume = ⅓ × π × 2.5² × 4 ≈ 26.2 m³
In real life a cover needs extra canvas for the overlap at the front and the smoke flaps, and the poles are longer than the slant height because they cross and stick out above the top. Asking why makes a great follow-up problem.
Every grade, every course
All tutoring follows the Alberta curriculum, so what we work on is what students see in class, on the Grade 6 and 9 Provincial Achievement Tests, and on diploma exams.
Learning that starts from who students are
Students learn best when math and science connect to their own lives. Where it helps, we use examples from the land and community life, like the geometry of a tipi or the math of planning a garden or a building project, and we welcome students and families sharing their own examples.
We respect Indigenous ways of knowing alongside Western math and science, an idea some call Two-Eyed Seeing, a term from Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall.

Your tutor
I’m Mohammed Golam Mortoza. I started tutoring at 18 and have taught math and science ever since, to students from Grade 5 to Grade 12, both one-on-one and in small groups. At university I worked as a teaching assistant. I studied Computer Science through to a master’s degree (BSc and MSc) and also earned a BBA in accounting.
Through my IT company, A+ IT Services, I work with First Nations schools across Alberta and Manitoba, so I know how First Nations schools work. I started A+ Tutoring so First Nations students can get patient, respectful math and science help wherever they live.

Questions families and schools ask
Is the first session really free?
Yes. The first session is 1.5 hours, online or in person. If you decide not to continue, you pay nothing.
How much does tutoring cost?
Tutoring is sold in packages: 10 sessions across math and science for $520, or a 15-session Diploma Prep Intensive for $780. Siblings get a discount, and schools and Nations can ask for a group quote.
Which grades and courses do you tutor?
Math and science from Grade 5 to Grade 12 in the Alberta curriculum, including Math 10C to 30-1, 30-2 and 30-3, Math 31, Science 10, and Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Science 20 and 30.
We live in a rural community. Can my child still join?
Yes. Most sessions are live on Zoom, so students can join from anywhere in Alberta with a computer, tablet or phone and an internet connection. In-person sessions are in north Edmonton.
Can our school, Nation or education authority pay for tutoring?
Yes. We give you a written quote with the number of sessions and the price, and send one invoice to the school or Nation.
Can Jordan’s Principle cover tutoring?
Some families have arranged tutoring through Jordan’s Principle. Each request is decided by Indigenous Services Canada, so we can’t promise approval, but we provide the quote and invoices a request needs.
Do you work with Métis and Inuit students too?
Yes. Our focus is First Nations students, and every student is welcome.
